Pendulum in Action, business education, public or private persona

I’m not a public figure but I have a public persona. I assume it whenever I leave the house or engage with someone else, I’m that person when I give a speech or work with clients. I like to think that this is the same as my private persona, that I’m the same at home as I am outside of it, but this would not be correct. We are divided selves, though we most of us act better in public because we sense that we’re being […]

Pendulum in Action, business education, creativity in business, psychic secretion

In my last post on Pendulum and business we looked at what branding really is: stripped of your logo, it’s all the associations that come to mind when customers hear or see your name.

Pendulum in Action, rushing to judgment, business education

You know that advice about writing an angry letter – write it, but don’t send it. Get your frustrations out and then let them go. You don’t really want to burn bridges by saying or writing something you may later regret.

The same thing might apply to figuring out what’s going on in the world. Too many of us – and I’m as guilty of this as the next person – tend to live in a bubble of information, where because we’re able to choose the kind of content we see, we’re less likely to […]

Pendulum in Business, wide and deep network, networking strategy, creativity in business

If your network is a mile wide and an inch deep, it will never be very powerful. You need a strong and stable network that is both wide and deep. Like the supporting roots of a huge oak tree, some of your referral relationships need to go deeper. You create deeper relationships by learning as much as you can about other people. You want to find out details about their family, their interests, and their goals. Get to know them a little bit better.

I think the absolute master at this is […]
